GENE & RENE
@a little something, Hong Kong, 2024

"Gene&Rene" exhibits the shared records and imagination of Irene Lee and Eugene Lun from their summer travels across Europe, serving as a postscript to their two-week journey. The exhibition captures each artist's unique perspective on the trip, continuing the story of those fleeting moments through their works. Though the trip spanned only fourteen days of summer, it was brief yet memorable—like basking in the last rays of a sunset, with every scene illuminated as if perfectly designed.
Drawing from the formats of diary entries and sketches, Irene recreates those experiences through a series of prints, attempting to extend the fleeting golden hour through the format of an exhibition. Along their journey, they reunited with many friends whom they had not seen for a long time, and these cameo appearances added joy and color to the trip. For Eugene, the experience was like a high-rated TV drama airing during prime time—dramatic and unforgettable. His works blend reality with imagination, documenting places they visited while weaving in whimsical fantasies, transforming the memories into imaginative narratives.
